A Message from ICC's New President

By Chela Davison

It is a great honour to have stepped into the role of President of ICC, leading this global school into the future of its contribution and impact in the world. Core to my own life’s work has always been a desire to contribute to the development of others and the ripple effects of that development out into our communities and societies.

In my role as lead teacher of the Integral Coaching® Certification Program, I’m continually amazed by the depth of capacity and care that our student and graduate body bring to bear, throughout our trainings, with their clients and out into the wider circles of work and life. Growing and supporting a community of deeply embodied, wise and skillful practitioners who are contributing to the waking up and growing up of our individual and collective circles of concern are what provide the most fuel for the fire of my work in the world.

Each of us have our own circles of concern. Some are close in, with the immediacy and demand of day to day living, caring for loved ones, doing our work. For others, our circles of concern ripple wide into the reaches of global disruptions, these crazy times we’re in, as we watch this world in its perpetual disintegration/integration cycles, the hopeful birthing of new and healthier systems and societies. A deep collective healing with light shining directly on wounds. Perhaps for many, as it is for me, we may be attending to what’s close in while also looking out at what’s needed from us on a larger scale.

For me personally, my own work of late has been listening for the calls - the quiet and close ones and the wide and loud - all of which beg for discernment, clarity and compassion. The underlying tenants of what it is that I’m leading and what I’m listening for is centered in emergence and contribution. It’s meeting the ‘what is’ on behalf of that which isn’t here yet. And isn’t that the work of coaching, the work that in one form or another, each of us in this global ICC community is called to…

Change that wants to be, results that haven’t been accomplished, initiatives that haven’t been carried out, muscles that aren’t yet built, dreams that don’t have form, liberation seeking a home. That is what it means to do the work of change. And that shit is hard. It takes guts. It takes heart. It takes wisdom and skillful means and there’s nothing more inspiring to me than being surrounded by people with guts, heart and wisdom – the desire to make a difference and the skillful means to it carry out.

What’s exciting and can also be daunting is that there’s so much change happening right now and fast. Innovation and dynamic resilience on top of shifting sands are at the heart of what’s needed to be able to carry out what we’ve got to offer. What most inspires me and drives me with this work is making available the opportunities for people to develop in ways that contribute to the service they long to bring forth in the world.

There is no shortage of suffering. In organizations, in individuals, in communities, in countries. There are endless spaces for our contributions. It’s awe-inspiring to learn about and witness the diverse ways in which Integral Coaches™ worldwide are enacting impact and alleviating suffering in their various circles of concern and I’m thrilled bring more and more visibility to these initiatives and contributions in the months and years to come.

Being part of this team and community and leading this school is a deep honour and privilege. As I’ve stepped into this role as President, so has Val Rosettani stepped into the role of VP, Operations. She’s an incredible human being and it’s a joy to be dancing with her.
